Paul I can see how your conclusion can be made. I don't know what was said in your youth, but next time they debate it make sure they start with cracking the Bible open, defining terms, and referencing actual historical fact. Sadly most interesting debates (adult or youth) don't use Bible passages as starting points. Who knows...maybe that bible might have some answers...

Or maybe you're avoiding the answer? Dub is right. God ordered the Israelites to destroy cities not for their cultural or racial qualities but because God promised them that the land would be theirs. Aside from that, you have to keep in mind that God knew the hearts of these people being destroyed. There was a reason why God wanted them to be destroyed as well.

Problem is, Paul, you're trying to make it sound like the Israelites just randomly decided to go and destroy cultures that they did not like (just like Hitler did). But these are completely different things and that is what Dub is trying to tell you. They did not destroy entire cities because of sin, thirst for blood, or because of racial reasons. They destroyed because God told them to. Hitler, on the other hand, killed for his personal satisfaction. He was a sinful man. He killed because he despised other races and cultures.
